Spesies Lele Berkulit Jaguar Ditemukan

Jaguar Catfish Species Found In shell
KOMPAS.com - Catfish probably already very familiar with Indonesian society. However, what about in shell-like jaguar catfish? Surely this is nothing new. Scientists have just discovered this species and publish its findings in the journal Zootaxa, Thursday (10/03/2011).
The scientists said the catfish are found to have the view outside the cream-colored with spots, jaguar skin exactly. Because of the similarity, it was later named after the jaguar catfish Stenolicnus ix. In the Maya language, "ix" is a word that refers to the jaguar species.
Ix Stenolicnus have prominent differences with other animals in the same genus. This species has a length of nasal barbells different from other species segenus. Nasal barbells are tactile organs extending from the mouth, tangible like cat whiskers.
This species is found in a series of expeditions in the northern Amazon region, Para, Brazil, tropical rainforest areas covering an area of 4 hectares. Scientists find when exploring basic Curua River, filter sand and leaf waste by using smaller nets.
"This fish we found when we will complete research on a small lake. Very small species are therefore very difficult to find. That's why we only take one sample," says Wolmar Wosiack, researcher and curator of collections at the Emilio Goeldi Museum ichtyologi, Para.
In addition to this jaguar catfish skinned, there are 15 other species are also found in the same waters as wide as 5 meters with a depth of 1 meter. Wosiack found him with his colleague, Daniel Coutinho, from the Federal University of the and and Luciano Montag, a graduate student at the university.
The expedition was organized by the Emilio Goeldi Museum and Conservation International Brazil. The expedition conducted in 2008 and involved 30 scientists, led by Alexandre Aleixo, researcher and curator of the Goeldi Museum bird collection. Exploration carried out in forest areas covering 12 million hectares.
