Kucing eMas (Catopuma temmincki)




Kucing Emas (Catopuma temmincki) berukuran lebih besar dari kucing rumah, akan tetapi lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan macan dahan dan harimau sumatera. Tubuhnya berwana kuning kecoklatan dengan belang putih dan hitam melintang pada bagian pipi, juga warna putih diantara kedua mata dengan banyak garis berwarna hitam memanjang pada muka. Terdapat bintik-bintik berwarna coklat pada bagian belakang kuping. Ekornya panjang dengan bagian pangkal berwarna coklat gelap dan terdapat warna putih jelas pada ujungnya, mungkin ini berfungsi sebagai suatu isyarat/tanda bagi kucing lain pada saat mereka tengah berjalan pada malam hari.

Mempunyai panjang badan sekitar 760-815 mm dan panjang ekor 430-490 mm serta berat 12- 15 kg. warna kuning keemasan dengan bagian bawah yang lebih terang. Biasanya hidup teresterial akan tetapi mempunyai kemampuan memanjat jika terpaksa. Makanan biasanya mamalia kecil (kancil, napu), burung, kadal dan hewan kecil lainnya. Masa gestasi sekitar 95 hari dengan jumlah anak sekitar 1-2 ekor; dan berat anak 250 g. melahirkan biasanya di gua kayu atau batu. Pada kondisi yang normal, berat tubuh tersebut akan mengalami kenaikan dua kali lipat yakni 500 gram pada umur 3 minggu, dan akan naik menjadi tiga kali lipat pada umur 6 minggu. Jantan dewasa turut berperan aktif dalam membesarkan anak – anak kucing dan juga memiliki sikap yang toleran terhadap mereka. Musim kawin tidak terbatas atau dapat terjadi kapan saja. Usia hidup kucing emas yang ada di alam liar bekum diketahui, tetapi kucing emas yang terdapat pada penangkaran dapat mencapai umur 18 tahun.

Meskipun bersifat soliter, Kucing emas juga sering terlihat hidup berkelompok sampai 4 ekor per kelompok. Mereka juga sering berburu secara berpasangan.



Golden cat (Catopuma temmincki)
Golden Cats (Catopuma temmincki) larger than a house cat, but smaller than the clouded leopard and Sumatran tigers.
