Singing Frog Found in Haiti
Conservation experts from Conservation International managed to find the back of six frog species endemic to Haiti. Frogs are found including species that have disappeared for decades and are thought to become extinct and some of them have such beautiful singing voice.
Six types of frogs found is ventriloquial Hispaniolan frogs, toads Mozart, La Selle grass frog, spotted frog chest Macaya, Hispaniola crowned frogs and burrowing frogs Macaya.
One type is a unique ventriloquial Hispaniolan frog. Species that can "throw" sound to distant places so they can outwit predators that hunt by the sounds of the frogs seemed to come from somewhere else. While other species are also unique is Macaya burrowing frog who likes to dig burrows in the ground. This species has a black eye and the hind legs orange.
While its name, which is not less interesting is the frog Mozart. The frog is named similar to the name of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart because it produces a similar sound musical tones. At night it sounds like the whistling of four tones, while at dusk and evening as two-tone whistle.
The most surprising findings was the grass frog La Selle. Types are not found for 25 years. This species is one among the 48 amphibian species most rarely found in Haiti to become a mystery. "We are looking for a single species, but it turned out to find other treasures. This reflects the resilience and hope for the Haitian people and wildlife that exist," said Richard Moore, the leader of this expedition CI.
Type the missing frog is found in Haiti in October last year. As is known, Haiti hit by the devastating earthquake last year that damage the infrastructure and consuming large amounts of casualties. Moore and Blair Hedge from Pennsylvania State University is the coordinator of this research. The discovery was part of a re search project amphibian species are now rarely found.
